Anani Memorial International School
Anani Memorial International School has partnered with Ghana since 2011. Located in Nima, one of Accra's most densely populated neighborhoods, it offers cherished educational opportunities to children through grade six. Many of its students come from other parts of West Africa, including Niger, Nigeria, and Mali.
Founded in 1975 by Yao Anane Nager, it has long been operated by Mr. Nager's son, Kofi Anane. Many students who attend the school are orphans and would not be able to attend school if Mr. Anane did not waive their fees. They therefore enjoy what only a small minority of Ghanaian school children have: small class sizes; dedicated teachers who come to school every day; high academic standards; and instruction in music, art, and French. Anani Memorial School has thus been able to send most of its graduates on to junior secondary and secondary school, and many of its graduates have become distinguished professionals.
